11 songs. 11 visionaries. 11 videos. DCFC is proud to present Directions, the companion to Plans.

Death Cab for Cutie has announced more details about their upcoming "Directions," a somewhat innovative anthology* of 12 short films inspired by each song on the band's acclaimed album Plans. Each song's video is being dreampt and installed by a different director. Eleven of the videos will be unveiled one by one at www.deathcabforcutie.com. The first fillm which is 'Marching Bands of Manhattan' was added on January 23.

*When I say "somewhat innovative" it is because if I remember correctly, R. Kelly did a simalar project last year, Trapped in the Closet, a twelve part mini soap opera.**

The entire collection will be available on DVD April 11, 2006. Among the filmmakers contributing to "Directions" are Autumn de Wilde, P.R. Brown, Ace Norton, Jeffrey Brown, Lightborne, Rob Schrab, Lance Bangs, Laurent Briet and Monkmus, as well as Aaron Stewart-Ahn. Be sure and check the website for updates.

As for the first installment, 'Marching Bands of Manhattan', it is nothing short of amazing. Keep in mind, this is coming from a sincere and somewhat hardcore DCFC fan, one who was first in line to get a copy of Plans, even though I had found a pirated copy somewhere. I am a true fan. If by some terrible fate you don't own thier album, Plans, or even suffer from an even more awful condition and do not know about DCFC, click here.

So I haven't made a proper post today, only the review of MBR and I am sorry! Please forgive me oh faithful readers. I have a good excuse, I have been looking for new stuff all afternoon, and guess what! I found some shtuff I want to share!

I was reading over at A Boy And His Blog about Jason Collett. I had heard of Broken Social Scene but somehow had never really listened. Somehow a few Stars songs had ended up on my iPod too. Fiest is one of my favorite artists. Somehow I hadnt heard a word about Jason Collett and he is my style, but all of thier work is good.

I know his album came out about a year ago, but I am just learning about it and I am sure there are people who are reading this wondering who the heck is Jason? I would post mp3's tonight but my server is being stupid. So just head over to Jason Collett's site and check him out there.

Matchbook Romance
Voices
* of *****

"Ummmmmmm yeah......" is exactly what I thought as I listened to Voices, Matchbook Romance's upcoming release. Voices goes in such a totally different direction than thier previous album, Stories and Alibis, its nearly sickening. I was pumped, waiting for another masterpiece, which I still say Stories and Alibis was. What I got instead was a mix between total crap and a misunderstanding of what music is.

Voices was one of my most anticipated CD releases of this year and after such a severe let down I don't think I'll anticipate another Matchbook Romance CD again. After a wonderful release like Stories and Alibis featuring songs like Promise, Tiger Lily and If All Else Fails, Voices falls short of the majestic empire that Matchbook Romance has built.

According to the Amazon Product Description:
"The band's sophomore release is a stunning artistic triumph. They've grown up, and in that process, reinvented themselves[!!!!!!!], delivering a record with much wider appeal than anything they've ever done. "Voices" holds close to MBR's emotional, post hardcore roots [!!!!!] while delivering massive sing-along choruses that'll carry the band to the widest possible audience."
Translation: They changed who they were to sell more albums... tisk tisk.

Although the CD in general was a complete let down, there is a thin silver lining. Track 10, What a Sight, is the best song on the album(though it still isnt that great). It combines the sounds that made Matchbook them who they were on their last album with decent vocals and a descent musical score.

Overall, What a Sight was, in no way, enough to pull the album together and make it what I, and possibly everyone else, has been waiting for. If you don't believe me, buy the album, but do not test me - you will regret it.

The Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I am, I am Not
**** of *****

Every band has an agenda. For some it’s too sell millions of really shitty records. For others it’s to whine, bitch, and moan about how their parents didn’t love them enough. As for Britain’s Artic Monkeys, they want your happy ass to dance and rock out, damnit. This four piece sites The Smiths, The Clash, and Braintax as a few of their influences.

To say that the Monkey’s are catchy is like saying Hendrix was a decent guitarist. Their songs on their CD Whatever People Say I am, I am Not are as infectious as the black plague; I’ll guarantee that after listening to “Perhaps Vampires is a Bit Strong” you won’t be able to get the chorus out of your head without the head of a pile driver.

Despite the undeniable catchiness of their songs, their lyrics are surprising well written and rise above the typical mindless banter of many dance-focused bands. Their song “A Certain Romance” takes a few stabs at pretentious hipsters, “Well oh they might wear classic Reeboks/Or knackered Ctrackse/ Or tracky bottoms tucked in socks/But all of that's what the point is not/ The point's that there ain't no romance around there” And in the track, “When The Sun Goes Down” there’s actually…hold your breath…decent social commentary, “So who's that girl there?/ I wonder what went wrong/So that she had to roam the streets/ She don't do major credit cards/ I doubt she does receipts/ It's all not quite legitimate.” The song even has a Police reference, “And I've seen him with girls of the night/And he told Roxanne to put on her red light.”

My only problem with the album is that they suffer what I call "AC/DC disease", an illness whose prominent symptom is when the songs sound much alike. But then again, this is their debut album, so one can’t expect greatness…yet…give these guys some time. Overall, this CD is awesome music to party to. So go party.

Richard Ashcroft - Keys to the World
****1/2 of *****

The other day an old friend asked me what I had been listening to lately and I answered quickly, “A lot.” which seemed to confuse him, but after explaining this site, he completely understood, but he persisted. It took me a while to think of what had been played most not being able to simply check my iTunes, but then I remembered Richard Ashcroft. His almost-released album Keys to the World has been playing almost on repeat since I got a hold of it.

Ashcroft is by no means new to the music scene, although he may be new to some of you. At 18 he and his college buddies formed Verve, which after their official sophomore album were regarded by Noel Gallagher as the second best band in the UK following behind Oasis. .

In March 1996, Ashcroft made his first solo appearance at Paramount in New York. Shortly after this appearance Verve reunited, and began to record another album. Their return single was released in June 1997 and reached number 2 on the UK charts. In October, the album ‘Urban Hymns’ was released. This album as well topped the charts.

As you can see, Ashcroft has been on top of the scene for the better part of his career. ‘Keys to the World’ will put him in no different place. Although it wasn’t until April 2000 that his first solo single, ‘A Song For The Lovers’ was released, almost a full year after the official break up of The Verve, the single still managed to reach Number 3. It seemed no one had forgotten who Richard Ashcroft was.

If someone told me this was recorded in the late 60’s or the early 70’s I would have no trouble believing them.
"I write tunes imagining all kinds of people being able to listen to them, he says. Whether they're into hip-hop, soul, blues or jazz. My music is a real thick stew that takes from so many places.” says Ashcroft. This album is nothing but Ashcroft then. In one word, melodic.

The songs direct attention to recent world-wide problems, and of course the power of music.
“I know, sometimes we all want to give in
These strange, strange vain days were living in
I know, sometimes we all want to give up
Don’t give up, alright, alright
Let the melody flow all night, all night
Cause music is power,
Its easing your soul
Rocking like a cradle
It wont let you go
If the melody is timeless
It wont let you down
Feel the air moving
Submit to the sound”

Basically, this album is awesome. This album is one of power; the melodic ways of Ashcroft “flow through your mind.” The backing of strings and the sensational voice of Ashcroft reminds me of Bob Dylan in some ways. It will likely be one of my least-expected favorite releases of 2006. Check it out when it is released on Feb. 4th in the US, or even preorder this one.

As it seems, January 24th is a gigantic release date, only to add another to the list of awesome CD's coming out, is Watashi Wa.

Lead man, Seth Roberts, has been writing and performing since he was a youngin' of just 13 years old. 24 now, his many years of practice are demonstrated on their upcoming album release on Tooth and Nail Records, Eager Seas. I can't wait to hear the whole album!

If you ever get the chance to see her live, take advantage of it, she puts on a great show!

I had never been to The Werehouse before but its reputation for a family like environment was all I had heard. The Werehouse is nearly impossible to find for a, but nonetheless a great place. It is truly a “hole in the wall”, nothing but such could have the welcoming atmosphere it has. It is situated directly beside rail tracks, and the occasional train horn continued to startle me all night.

The show was pretty awesome. The first band, I was a little unsure of, but after that, it was really amazing. It was almost an all female show, but the highlight for me was Tin Cup Prophette. Tin Cup Prophette frontwoman Amanda Kapousouz’s voice is truly awe-inspiring. Her humbleness was amazing, and she really connected with the audience. She seemed to wholeheartedly enjoy herself on stage, and her VOICE… there are no words to describe it. The few demo songs on Myspace do her absolutely no justice, I could have sat and listened to her for hours.

She has a new CD coming out in the next few months, hopefully I will find a copy in the mail so I can tell everyone how great it is!

Here’s a better sample of her sound - Unicycle – more can be found at her website.

This is the…
newest,
hottest,
and best sounding,
music blog around,
and best place for you to learn about new music!

Well, who am I to say that? I am the creator, of course I like it… you be the judge!

This is not a personal blog!
Im sure your asking, “Well, what is it then?”
It is a collective blog. A place where many people, from many different backgrounds, with totally different views on everything tell how they feel about music. This is not just my opinion, it is not everyone’s, just OURS. We are, of course, welcoming new writers each day.
There is no focus on a particular genre, just good music. We, at this time only seem to have writers whose interests are in:
Indie
Rock
Emo
Hardcore
Classic
But that is not to mean we wouldn’t feature and R&B artist, or a hip-hop artist. We are ALWAYS looking for HOT, NEW music!!!

This is a place of interaction, not just a place to read about music. In the coming weeks, new website features will be added, including a place for musicians to unite, and also for bands to sell merch. WHAT IS BETTER THAN BAND MERCH???
I said before this is the best sounding blog, but you don’t hear anything huh?
Each post, review, news, and most everything will have a soundbyte, a little bit of what we are talking about. Sounds cool huh? That is all I have for now but, there should be about 2-10 posts a day, so check back often for updates!
